First Presbyterian Church is a community of faith,
celebrating a loving God. We will manifest the life of
Christ to one another and the world by sharing our faith,
and using our gifts. We seek to develop fully devoted and
spiritually driven followers of Jesus Christ.
First Presbyterian Church of
Fort Myers celebrated its 100th birthday on March 7,
2001. Located in the
Heart of Fort Myers,
on
the corners of Lee and Second Streets and
between Lee and Royal Palm. FPC can truly say it has
been, and continues to be, an integral part of the
city’s life.
Seventeen called pastors have served the church since
its birth, plus an unknown number of circuit riders in
its early days when Fort Myers was truly a cattle town
with unpaved streets. From those earliest years music
has played a major role in our worship. In the services
today you will hear our baby grand piano and our magnificent Moeller pipe organ
which was donated in 1972 and recently expanded.
Since we are in the
Heart of Fort Myers,
for years members and visitors walked to the church.
Some who lived across the Caloosahatchee River or on the Orange River actually came by boat. Those
traditions continue today as we have members living in
downtown’s new condo and apartment complexes and
shipboard in the City Yacht Basin. Of course we also
have members and visitors from all parts of Lee County,
who are finding out that First Presbyterian Church of
Fort Myers is just one more reason to come downtown,
again.
